I am playing on ultra high settings as per the game's recommendation. I started a new game and noticed some lag/freezing that would last sometimes only a couple seconds, sometimes 10-20 seconds, before returning to normal. Mostly this occurred when I was turning to look around or when a scripted event occurred such as Alduin flying over Helgen, Tillius speaking with the Thalmor at the beginning, etc.
Anyway, I isolated the problem to the free DLC hi-res texture packs. Once I disabled them, its been absolutely smooth as silk gameplay. The only thing is, the texture packs look SO GOOD. I don't want to lose the ability to use them. I would greatly appreciate any help in troubleshooting this, as I'd really like to use the HD texture packs. Additionally, are there any mods you can recommend that improve the graphics quality? I have a few such as Immersive Contrast, a better water mod, improved cities, etc.

The pack came with the following files:HighResTexturePack01 and 02 ending in .BSA and HighResTexturePack01 and 02 ending in .ESP. Which one do I activate to make the mod work? Do I activate all four? Do I activate matching numbers like 01 and 01 that end in either .BSA or .ESP? No matter what I try I can't get what could be considered high res textures.Thanks. I noticed it for about 10 minutes, and now I'm contemplating removing it, but can't be bothered to. The textures are notably better, but they don't fix a ton of other graphical issues that are way more apparent. For a completely irrational reason I've deleted my Data folder, verified the game cache and am now re-downloading my data folder.
This seems to be the only way to get rid of all traces of previous mods. I'll then, maybe later, download the big texture pack from Nexus, or try the official one again. there is a really bad screwup in 1 of the dlc texture packs.

Which of those texture packs should I use from the Skyrim HD - 2K Textures? Isn't there a comprehensive texture overhaul I could use? It has been out for more than 2 years. Probably just didn't happen to enough people, plus the high res pack doesn't have that much of an effect so they probably just thought that people could just stop using it. I for one haven't has this bug but I have experienced a fair few others but tbh you can't expect a game development team to fix every last bug but that;s just my opinion. Just install the unofficial oatch for it, pinned at top of forum page.
This may help sort your prob., follows after no. 3 texture pack in load order. Also include unofficial skyrim patch and this follows after skyrim update. Originally posted by JC21:Thanks for the help but if it's bugged why hasn't Bethesda made any patches for it?

Most people suggest that the problem could be mods, ram, drivers, gpu etc. None of them is the problem (i am using gtx 780ti with latest drivers). Most common solution was to lower the graphics to medium (that's not even a solution). 1000 pages is a lot of problems.
Maybe Bethesda should remove the DLC if it doesn't work. I am sure there are a lot of graphics mods that are better. Valve Corporation. All rights reserved. I disabled the High res. Esm. and that fixes the problem, is anyone else having this issue or found a solution? My pc specs are more than capable for handling skyrim at high res, so I can't seem to come to a conclusion on the issue. Thanks in advance! Back to top hi. i have a similar problem with the high res pack. if activated the game crashes (btw) randomly. an interesting part is that if i load a specific savegame and walk to a skull that lies on the ground, the game crashes every time i get close to it!?without the high res pack.
no problems. couldn?t find a solution.vista, gtx460, intel e6700, 4gig. Back to top I have the same problem.I was running Skyrim vanilla (with Sky UI ) on ultra high settings for a couple months. Had good FPS and never had a crash at all.
Then I installed the high res pack and the game crashes almost everytime I go out a door or use fast travel, and sometimes randomly. I can't go more than 5 minutes without a crash.I'm also getting featureless purple "textures" on things at random: stone walls, Lydia's entire set of armor except her boots, the books in my inventory.
The inside of the Hall of the Dead now looks like the smooth interior of a purple starship Enterprise. Seems completely random. Sometimes they are fine, and the next time there is a problem.Everything works fine if I uncheck the high res files in the launcher. I've edited the .ini files as I've seen on here, had the game remake the .ini files, used a 4 GB unlocker for my Win 7 32 bit OS, etc.
etc. Nothing seems to help. I might try to reinstall if I can't fix it.Anyone have any ideas? Back to top I am also having problems with the new texture pack from Bethesda, game crashes to desktop when ever i go outside.game runs fine when i turn the packs off but would be nice to be able to use them.I have re-installed and made sure there are no possible conflicting mods and updated drivers.my specs are -2.8ghz i7nvidea 560 ti4gb ramwindows 7 Back to top Still getting data to find common points, please report the Windows version being used, 32 or 64 bits.
Most reports seem pointing the 32bits version having stability issues with the pack. Back to top Well, I finally got the game to run fine with the high res pack installed by setting the graphics from my usual 'ultra high' to 'low'.
I spent half an hour going all over Skyrim and didn't have my usual crashes or any purple textures.Of course the game looks terrible now, and setting everything to 'low' defeats the purpose of the high res texture pack. I can assure you get much better results keeping the graphics higher and avoiding that extensive pack which is too subtle to make real difference unless you get the eyes glued to the surface. Besides, most mods changing particular assets like armors, weapons and stuff overrides the pack, so the loss is still smaller than it looks.Anyway, you may want to look into this tweak guidePS: In a side note: you should really upgrade the OS to 64 bits, the age of 32 is over by now and the problems will only grow from now on for 32 bits OSes.Edited by nosisab, 12 February 2012 - 04:15 PM. Back to top Glad i'm not the only one, God willing Bethesda will find a way to patch it.

BUT with all texturepacks i include . without texturepacks the game runs "normal" again. anybody an idea what causes these crashes ? i realy want to use high res textureSo if i turn off the DLC pack for textures, it runs fine as usual, but i want to to look nicer without the community mods that drastically change the original vanilla look.I have 4GB ram, but only 3.12 usable.

Personally, I can't see a lot of difference between the HD packs and the post-process injector. My game looks and runs great with the injector, so the HD packs are going to stay disabled.

like when starting a new game the game crashes just as the horse thief is saying his line, I can load a game that has been saved in the riverwood trader and am able to freely explore Riverwood without the game crashing however when I get part of the way to Whiterun the game also crashes. I have disabled all other mods and the game still crashes so I know it is not a compatibility problem, also I have deactivated the texture pack ESPs and can run the game without problem so I know it is the texture pack that is causing the issue.

And your videocard doesn't have enough. In the normal case, the game should realize it didn't get the requested memory, and do something else. But if it doesn't realize it didn't get the requested memory, it will do "unexpected things" and will cause your game to crash. Strictly speaking, this is a bug. But these kinds of bugs are very common amongst programmers.
(It isn't easy to *always* keep in mind that you might have ran out of memory).Even if Bethesda would fix these bugs, it wouldn't mean everything is ok. You are still running out of vram. Even if Bethesda would fix it, your game would start stuttering beyond the point where it is playable. And therefor you still have to cut down on vram-usage.What videocard do you have ? How much vram does it have ? If it has 1GB of vram, or less, then forget about running the high-res texture pack.
Your hardware can't handle it (not enough vram). Sorry. There are some other things that need to be considered. In what resolution do you play ? What kind of Anti-Aliasing do you use, and how much ? Higher resolution and more AA requires more vram, obviously. But in general, it is the size of the texutures that has the highest impact on vram usage.Emily Jones Posts: 3419 Joined: Mon Jul 17, 2006 3:33 pm So are there no fixes for the issue?Hystorically, Windows allowed processes to allocate at most 2 GB of memory.
Skyrim often used more than that. That caused problems of course.Logically, a Windows process could use 4 GB of memory. A 32-bit number can count up to 2^32-1. That is 4 billion. That allows you to differentiate between 4 billion different memory locations. Or 4GB.Windows added an option to let a program tell the Operating System that it is smart, and can use more than the usual 2GB.
This is called the LAA-feature. At release, you could mode Skyrim to use the LAA to tell Windows to give it more memory. Since January (or December), Bethesda added the LAA-feature to Skyrim.
